Olympic Games 2024: exercises on the Seine, the number of spectators… Where is the security for the opening ceremony?

First of all, it was a technical rehearsal to delay the Boat Ballet on the Seine for just over a year. But the police headquarters took advantage of this first riverside rehearsal of the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics to get used to it. 850 police and firefighters were sent on Monday to monitor the organizing committee’s rally on the water and also to delay one year from July 26, 2024, when France will have to deal with the breakdown. .

For the overall observation of the event, the prefecture has set up for the first time its centralized command room, where the opening ceremony and all competition venues in the Île-de-France region, its exclusive area of competence during the Olympic and Paralympic Games, will be scrutinized.

GIGN, Raid and the Anti-Gang Brigade (BRI) also tested a common team. These three intervening forces will work to secure the ceremony, paying special attention to the personalities present at the Trocadero, the site where the river parade ends.

The number of viewers has not stopped yet

Also, a helicopter took off into the sky of Paris for filming. On the Seine, 130 police officers, including those from the new Brav-N brigade, and firefighters conducted “several drills,” police prefect Laurent Nunez explained. On the agenda for the morning: actions on the piers or on boats to evacuate people who will become victims of D-Day discomfort, “very carefully so as not to interfere with the parade” and radio coordination work.

But in the short term, other issues are related to security measures for this evening, which could mobilize up to 45,000 police officers. First, the number of people that can be controlled along the Seine. If the figure of 100,000 paying spectators on the lower piers is confirmed, then on the upper part of the river banks it has not yet been decided. However, they will be able to enjoy a free direct view of the ceremony if they have a ticket and therefore have been allocated a seat.

Announcements in the “autumn” about this are planned, sports minister Amelie Oudea-Kastera said. The trend will be for a maximum of 400,000 spectators to have access to high platforms. But other people could follow the opening ceremony on giant screens in different parts of the capital, probably not far from the Seine. A possibility being discussed with the city of Paris and the police headquarters, which seems to be getting more and more consensus.
