Guerrero and Advíncula: the importance of Peruvian national team fighting for a Cup after six years

Beneath their colors, Peruvians wear the Bicolor on their chest and that is why this week they represent the entire country in the Conmebol tournaments. At the end of today’s afternoon, Paolo Guerrero with LDU will play the first leg of the Sudamericana semifinals and tomorrow Luis Advíncula with Boca Juniors will do the same, but in the Libertadores, both playing at home.

The last time a national reached the final of one of these tournaments was Miguel Trauco with Flamengo in the 2017 Sudamericana, while Melgar remained in the semis last year. Let’s hope that in 2023 the image of a Peruvian fighting for the title will be repeated.

In recent years we have seen players like André Carrillo celebrate at the international level in the Asian Champions League on two occasions and reaching the final of the Club World Cup last year. Also Raúl Ruidíaz winning the Concachampions to reach the World Cup.

Likewise, Gianluca Lapadula was the protagonist in Cagliari’s promotion to Seria A in the playoffs, Raúl Ruidíaz and Alexander Callens won the MLS, Anderson Santamaría was crowned in Liga MX. They are successes counted for Peruvian soccer players. That is why it is important to see Guerrero and Advíncula competing in the semifinals of the Conmebol tournaments in 2023.

Tonight, LDU hosts Defensa y Justicia with Paolo in attack (5 pm). The Peruvian team seeks to transfer its good moment in Ecuadorian soccer, where it is the leader, and make Quito’s height weigh against an Argentine team that played with substitutes in local soccer and will recover four starters for tonight.

Meanwhile, Guerrero also comes from resting the weekend date, in LDU’s 1-0 victory over Orense. The national attacker has barely scored a goal in the nine games he has played – in his debut against Ñublense in Sudamericana – but in Quito they trust him.

“We would like him to score more goals, but it opened the possibility of entering this instance. The hierarchy that he puts in the team has been very important,” defended Isaac Álvarez, president of the club, in reference to the fact that he scored in the penalty shootout against Sao Paulo.

The semifinals of the Sudamericana began last night with the duel between Fortaleza and Corinthians, with the score 1-1 in Sao Paulo.

Tomorrow at La Bombonera Luis Advíncula would come out as an attacker for the duel between Boca and Palmeiras. Coach Jorge Almirón is practicing with the Peruvian as a right winger to take advantage of his speed to accompany Lucas Janson and Edinson Cavani.

It is the first time that the national team will compete in this stage of the tournament, since in the two years that it has been in the Xeneize team it was eliminated in the round of 16. This season he has had a great participation with three goals, all with his left foot while he is right-footed.

In another match of the series, tonight Fluminense will face Inter from 7:30 pm. The rematches of both tournaments will be next week and the finals at the end of the month for the Sudamericana and in November for the Libertadores.

The continent stops for these games and two Peruvians will be the protagonists. Both must be on Juan Reynoso’s list for the team’s duels against Chile and Argentina, on date 3 and 4, respectively, of the Qualifiers.
