Paolo Guerrero and the remarkable mark he achieved after scoring a double in the semifinal of the Sudamericana

Paolo Guerrero has returned to the forefront of international football. The Peruvian, who is about to turn 40 years old (he will do so on January 1, 2024), scored a double in the great victory of LDU de Quito (3-0) over Defensa y Justicia in the first leg semifinal of the South American Cup 2023.

First he went with a header after a corner, beating his defender with complete hierarchy. He then scored with a powerful shot from almost the penalty spot, leaving the goalkeeper without any reaction. The Argentine Piovi scored the third that leaves the Ecuadorian team with a step in the final.

Beyond the great news for the Peruvian team that means that Paolo Guerrero continues to score, the forward has an incredible mark under his belt. And he has scored in all the international tournaments he played in. He did it in the Champions League, UEFA Cup, Intertoto, Europa League, Club World Cup, Recopa Sudamericana, Copa Libertadores and has three goals in the Sudamericana: two against Defensa y Justicia, and one against Ñublense.

Furthermore, with the Peruvian national team shirt he scored in the Qualifiers, Copa América and also in the World Cup. It was in Russia 2018, an event for which Peru qualified after 36 years.

Paolo’s most memorable goal was surely the one he scored against Chelsea in the 2012 Club World Cup. His goal gave Corinthians the title and established them as the last South American club to win the tournament. From now on only European teams have won it.
