“By no means is this murder”: Mike Maignan responded to criticism after the red card in the match with Genoa

Much more memorable was the skill of Olivier Giroud, the goalkeeper for one evening, in the Milan goal. But to get there, the best scorer in the history of the French national team had to replace Mike Maignan in the cages, the imperial this Saturday night… until the 98th minute.

Milan’s latest stopper then completely missed the exit from outside his penalty area to Genoa striker Caleb Ecuban while his side were in the lead thanks to a goal from their summer recruit Pulisic (1-0). Maignan hit the Ghanaian in the upper body with his forearm. Quite spectacular slow motion shots.

“What happened was not intentional”

An action that no longer relates to the President of Genoa, Alberto Zangrillo. “We have witnessed an intervention that I, as a doctor, call murderous, but this is normal. We will see what sanctions they give to Maignan, but they are in the process of holding two different championships,” he criticized after the meeting.

The Milan goalkeeper reacted to these tackles this Sunday on Instagram. “Words matter. What happened (on Saturday) was not intentional, it may be unfortunate, but it is by no means murder,” he wrote in the story. Directly ejected for this dangerous gesture, Mike Maignan faces a multi-match suspension. “I wish you all the best for the future and hope you never have to go through what you accused me of,” he added.

That won’t stop the French goalkeeper being available for the Blues’ next meeting next week. France will face the Netherlands and then Scotland on October 13 and 17.
