Cecilia Tait is a new member of the International Olympic Committee

Cecilia Tait She entered this Tuesday as a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), a recognition of the extraordinary career of one of the best players of her generation.

During the 141st IOC Session held in Bombay (India), the assembly cast 76 votes in favor and none against the admission of the former world and Olympic runner-up.

Seven other candidates also achieved entry: the Israeli Yael Arad (judo runner-up in Barcelona’92 and president of her country’s Olympic Committee), the Hungarian Balàzs Fürjes (specialist in large sports facilities), the Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh (winner of an Oscar and United Nations ambassador), the German Michael Kersten (leader and organizer of sports competitions), the Swedish Petra Sörling (president of the International Table Tennis Federation), the South Korean Jae Youl Kim (president of the International Table Tennis Federation Skating) and the Tunisian Mehrez Boussayene (president of his country’s committee).

Cecilia Tait was part of the historic Peruvian volleyball team that won world silver in 1982, bronze in 1986 and Olympic silver at the Seoul ’88 Games – her third Games – where she was chosen as the best player of the tournament. in which the Soviet Union won gold. She was also a four-time South American champion.

Tait was born on May 2, 1962 in Lima. He played for clubs in Italy, Brazil, Germany and Japan, as well as in his own country.

After her retirement in 1998, she embarked on a political career that led her to become a congresswoman, a role in which she focused on supporting sports and youth. She has a diploma in Business Administration.

After the vote in favor of her entry into the IOC, she read her oath in Spanish, committing to act independent of any commercial or political interest and to respect the fundamental principles of Olympism. The president of the organization, Thomas Bach, awarded him the IOC medal.
