William Gallas fears Kai Havertz is already faced with saving his Arsenal career ahead of his return to Chelsea this weekend.

When Mikel Arteta invested £65 million in a player who had misled for three years at Stamford Bridge, he caused a stir.

The Arsenal manager’s original plan was to reinvent Havertz as a central midfielder in place of Granit Xhaka, who joined from Bayer Leverkusen.

However, Havertz has struggled to adapt to his new role and his best performances to date have only come fleetingly in the false nine role, which he held for most of his Chelsea career.

The 24-year-old had perhaps his best moment of his short Arsenal career to date before the international break when he created Gabriel Martinelli’s winning goal against Manchester City, but Gallas has not been impressed with his contributions so far.

“I’m not impressed with Kai Havertz so far,” the former Arsenal and Chelsea defender told Lord Ping.

“He hasn’t done anything since he joined Arsenal.” He may have scored, but that was only because Martin Odegaard made him take a penalty!

“Havertz hasn’t done anything yet and I think he’s in trouble.

I don’t think Arsenal should have signed Kai Havertz. I think that was a mistake. If you spend €60 million on a striker, you expect him to score at least fifteen goals in a season! I don’t think that will happen

“Arsenal has no time!” The season may be long, but clubs need immediate results. Havertz played at Chelsea for three years and knows the Premier League well.

‘It might take a while for him to settle into a new team, but he was already living in London!’ ‘The players have to adapt straight away – they don’t have time.’
