There was no shortage of drama in Roma’s 1-1 draw with Fiorentina at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday, with the home side receiving two red cards, including goalscorer Romelu Lukaku.

The attacker, who was hired from Chelsea, scored after just five minutes and the home team took the lead at half-time before things went completely wrong after the break.

Nicola Zalewski was booked twice and sent off, Lucas Martinez Quarta equalized for Fiorentina and then Lukaku was immediately sent off for a vicious attack on Christian Kouame, leaving Roma down to nine players.

Mourinho raged on the sidelines after Lukaku was sent off, but it was a very weak strike from the Belgian striker, who actually had no complaints.

The Roma coach was clearly still upset after the final whistle as he walked through the media zone without comment, only greeting Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Italiano.

The press heard nothing from the Roma camp and the players also refused to comment.

The draw puts Roma in fourth place in Serie A, but although there is certainly a battle for the European places on the horizon, a title race already seems out of the question, now that leaders Inter Milan are thirteen points ahead of Mourinho’s men.

Roma’s only defeat in their last nine Serie A matches has come against Inter, with six wins and two draws in impressive form.

Lukaku has been a key part of Mourinho’s team since his loan spell, scoring seven goals in 13 Serie A games.
