A Greek woman was killed by three escaped German shepherds who mauled her while she was in her garden.

The 50-year-old was attacked in Thessaloniki, northern Greece, on Sunday afternoon after the dogs escaped through a hole in their owner’s fence.

The woman was working in her yard at the time with a deaf-mute man, but he could not hear her screams, police said.

When rescuers arrived on the scene, the woman was pronounced dead.

The woman’s two teenage sons heard her screams but also arrived too late to help their mother.

Her ex-husband told local media that the dogs had hunted people before and that they were “big, wild dogs.”

Attacks by stray dogs are not uncommon in Greece: in 2017, a woman, believed to be a retired university professor, was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs.

Celia Hollingworth, 64, called her family for help when she was assaulted, but her phone lost reception.
