He himself organized the Olympic Games when he chaired them in London in 2012. International athletics federation president Sebastian Coe lamented on Monday the “high” price of public tickets for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
“It is my responsibility to ensure that our sport takes place in the best conditions possible, that the French organizing committee does everything possible to fill the stadiums, even if ticket prices, as we know, are high,” he said. during a year-end conference call with news organizations.
More than 7.6 million tickets have already been sold for the Paris Games. Some are offered at a minimum price of 24 euros, while others, especially for athletics competitions, cost up to 690 euros. Some French athletes criticized the price of tickets on social media.
He calls for “events at affordable prices”
“Our focus will always be on ensuring that fans in stadiums can watch competitions at affordable prices, which will allow us to develop our sport,” said Sebastian Coe. In particular, he pointed out the need to “take into account” the families of athletes who will travel to cheer up their loved ones.
The two-time Olympic champion in the 1500 meters wished “good luck” to Tony Estanguet, the president of the French organizing committee, and his colleagues. And he expressed hope “that the Games will be held in complete safety, and not in an atmosphere of isolation.”
France is preparing to host the Olympic Games in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024. This is an extraordinary event from an organizational point of view, made even more complex by the international context of the wars in Ukraine and between Israel and Hamas.
