Luke Littler was “very upset” after missing three darts against Luke Humphries, which could have kept his World Darts Championship hopes alive.

The 16-year-old sensation aimed to become the youngest world champion in darts history after his incredible run at Alexandra Palace.

He competed against Humphries, the number one in the world, in the final in the capital on Wednesday. After recovering from the first set defeat, the teenager stormed into a 4-2 lead before Humphries secured five brilliant set victories to secure a 7-4 victory.

On the 11the And in the final set, Littler had a chance to continue the fight, but missed three darts that would have secured him the set.

Littler struck and connected on a double eight to seal the victory. Littler immediately embraced his opponent, but admitted he was frustrated with the turn of events.

“It was unbelievable,” he told Sky Sports.

“The only negative was that I lost too much leg on my throw, which allowed Luke to break me. “I couldn’t hold my own throw and didn’t win.

“That was the only negative, I just couldn’t hold my own throw and didn’t win. Every game was good, but this one really annoyed me, especially the three that were missing to continue.

“That’s what the crowd wanted, but fair play to Luke. He deserves it.’

Despite the defeat, Littler has made tremendous progress and has become a new star of British sport. He will rise more than 130 places in the world rankings.

“I have reached the final. Maybe I won’t make it in the next five to 10 years. We don’t know, but I can say that I am second and now I just want to win it,” he said.

Humphries, 12 years older than today’s opponent, said he was particularly motivated to secure the win as he believed Littler would “dominate the darts”.

“I’ve been thinking about it all day: buy this now, because it will soon dominate the world in darts.”

“He’s an incredible player. When I wanted to win, he was still so ruthless. He is an incredible talent, but I had to win this match tonight. I’m sure he will win a lot.’
