Boxing in Royan: Malouey Canlers, French champion, victory of courage and hard work

Putting on the gloves and getting into the ring is the definition of happiness for 20-year-old Maloway Canlers. So much so that she has dedicated her entire life to it since Mikael Weus, Roc Boxe’s trainer, noticed her while she was practicing Muay Thai. She was 14 years old and her potential immediately attracted the attention of coach Royan. “My mother didn’t want me to box, she was afraid that I would get hit,” says the young woman. But I won my first fight just five months after I started, so I took that as encouragement and didn’t stop. »

Until this Saturday, December 16th, when she beat Océan Creil de Pessac at the Alain-Mimoun complex in Day-la-Barre (Val d’Oise). A victory that made her the French amateur champion up to 50 kg.

“She’s incredibly diligent. »

A new source of pride for the Rouen club, which coached Makan Traore, a future participant in the Paris Olympic Games. Makan, who became Maloway’s role model. To such an extent that you wanted to follow in his footsteps? “She has room to grow,” reacts Michael Weus. She can still join the Pole of France and then gain access to the highest level of competition. But to do this, she needs to learn to cope with stress. »

The champion nods. She lacks self-confidence, she knows it, she works on it. If not for this minor mental problem, Maloway trains diligently and displays self-sacrifice that earns the admiration of those around him. “Sometimes we come back after a fight, no matter if she wins or loses, she goes straight to the gym,” comments Michael Weus. She’s incredibly diligent. »

In addition to the coach, she can count on good advice from Romain Rohe and John Lasserre on matters of physical fitness. And since courage is also measured in everyday life, Maloway divides his time between several jobs and helps his parents on weekends at the markets.

Today his goal is to shine at the Amateur French Cup, which will be held at the end of January in Saint-Avold in Alsace. A competition that is open to foreign boxers and will allow Malovey Canlers to test his fists against new opponents in his category.

Roc Boxe, which she considers “not a club, but a family,” will support her to the end, no matter what happens.
