A saving goal by Dani Carvajal in the 85th minute prevented Real Madrid from defeat in the Madrid derby in the semi-finals of the Spanish Super Cup and corrected an error by Kepa Arrizabalaga that ended in an own goal by Antonio Rüdiger in Atlético’s third goal from Madrid.
The second half of the first final of the Spanish Super Cup reduced its brilliance after a first with an exchange of blows and four goals for the tie at two at halftime.
A weak start by Kepa in the 79th minute, in which he called for a foul from Álvaro Morata, ended in a bad clearance that hit Rüdiger before going into his own goal (2-3).
Real Madrid went all out to avoid defeat and achieved it with the third goal from a Carlo Ancelotti defender in the match after those scored by Rüdiger and Ferland Mendy in the first half. After a stop by Oblak on Vinícius, Mario Hermoso taking Bellingham’s shot from under the sticks, Carvajal scored high to cause extra time (3-3).
Hermoso had scored the first goal of the game after seven minutes and Griezmann became Atlético de Madrid’s all-time top scorer with 174.
