Jovana de la Cruz achieved a record in the Houston Marathon for Paris 2024

The Peruvian delegation in Paris 2024 continues to grow and this time it was Jovana de la Cruz who registered her name in this year’s Olympic Games by achieving the minimum mark this Sunday in the Houston Marathon.

The Peruvian athlete ran this morning in the Houston Marathon, in Texas, and achieved fifth place in the women’s category with a time of 2:26:49, a mark that allows her to be eligible for Paris 2024.

Jovana achieved the mark by just one second below the established minimum, 2:26:50. The national team will thus compete in its third Olympic Games, along with Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, if other athletes do not improve their record, since there are only three athletes eligible for the competition.

Despite obtaining the mark, her preparation for the Olympic Games may be complicated since Jovana would have competed in Houston without the endorsement of the Peruvian Athletics Federation, which would not allow her to access the benefits of the programs that the IPD has.

With Jovana, the Peruvian delegation reaches 13 representatives. In the marathon we already have the names of Glady Tejeda and Cristhian Pacheco, while in the running the qualifiers are Kimberly García, Mary Luz Andía, Evelyn Inga and César Rodríguez.

In vale go Stefano Peschiera and Florencia Chiarella, while in surf Lucca Mesinas repeats the classification and in shooting go Nicolás Pacheco and Daniela Borda. Meanwhile, the ranking of Inés Castillo in badminton is fixed.
