USA: climate activists interrupt Donald Trump’s meeting

He has been called a “climate criminal.” Young climate change activists briefly interrupted a meeting with former US President Donald Trump on Sunday to campaign for the Republican primary in Iowa.

“Trump is a climate killer!” ranted the few activists during a rally in Indianola, in the heart of the Midwestern state, before being evacuated by security as the crowd chanted “USA, USA!” “.

The activists later said they were part of the US-based Sunrise movement. “We just interrupted a Trump rally to denounce him for what he is: a climate criminal who cares more about the oil and gas millionaires funding his campaign than the future of our generation,” the group explained on X (formerly Twitter).

Actions against Republican candidates

The Sunrise Movement was particularly notable in November 2018 for co-ordinating a sit-in with Democrat-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez at the office of Nancy Pelosi, the House President.

In recent weeks, the group has stepped up its efforts to denounce the positions of candidates in the Republican primaries. as Vivek Ramaswamyor Ron DeSantis.

Donald Trump, the front-runner in the Republican primary, is challenging the scientific consensus on climate change and says he wants to resume large-scale hydrocarbon drilling throughout the United States if he is elected again in November.

In one of his first decisions upon arriving at the White House in 2017, Donald Trump abandoned the 2015 Paris climate agreement.
