It was a day of mixed feelings for Cecilio Waterman. On Sunday, the Panamanian attacker scored his first goal with Lima Alliance and he was one of the best in the victory against Universidad César Vallejo, for the first date of the League 1but his happiness was not complete because that same day, hours before the start of the meeting, he found out about the sudden death of his compatriot Luis Tejadawho was one of the best soccer players in the history of Panama.
‘Pana’, who spent a large part of his sporting career in Peru, in clubs such as Juan Aurich (where he is an idol), César Vallejo, Universitario de Deportes, Sport Boys and Pirata FC, died of cardiac arrest while playing a exhibition match in his country. He was 41 years old.
After the victory against César Vallejo, Waterman declared to the press and said that his goal was dedicated to ‘Pana’ Tejada:
“First of all, I am very hurt by the death of the ‘Matador’, he was a humble guy, a gentleman, he opened the doors to Panamanians here in Peru. We will always be grateful for that for life. May God bless him.” Waterman said, visibly embarrassed.
“Yes, I dedicated the goal to ‘Pana’, he was my idol as a child. When I was younger you always wanted to be like him. He was a good person”, he added.
