BIKLU, EPISODE 20 – With pliers in hand, a man walks confidently towards a top-of-the-line Decathlon bicycle. In 13 seconds, he cuts and breaks the cheap anti-theft device that protected him. We saw and filmed this action. This bike is ours. We wanted him to be robbed. Our goal? Better understand bicycle resale channels.
Every week on the Le Parisien Facebook page you will find a new episode of our Biclu series.
We are located in Stalingrad, in the 19th district. In the area of the Ourc canal, between the stations of Stalingrad, Zhores and Rike, bicycle thefts have become a daily occurrence. So much so that locals have nicknamed the area the “Bermuda Triangle of Stolen Bikes.”
Our bike is a completely new entry-level model. We equipped it with a GPS tracker hidden in the flashlight. We then attached an inexpensive lock (€2.99), a model that is still widely used by cyclists on a budget. It’s 11:45 now, all that’s left to do is wait…
