“Dancing bachata helps improve coordination in football”: the truth about the curious way of training that San Martín has in League 2

For that reason, El Comercio called Duilio Cisneros, San Martín coach, to explain this work methodology and tell about the new signings for League 2 in 2024.

– Professor, Duilio, we saw that you are dancing with your players in the preseason, why is that?

We consider that dancing is very good because we can train coordination, you know that the soccer player needs to be coordinated so that he can execute technical gestures, when we talk about technique, we are referring to everything that has to do with handling the ball , passing, driving, dribbling, finishing, chest control, thigh control, head play and even the same movements that are made when moving when playing a soccer game require coordination. So, we believe that dancing requires a lot of coordination, even with rhythm coordination, since you have to synchronize your movements to the rhythm of the music.

– Since when have you applied it in your work methodology?

It is something that we have truly believed for many years, and my physical trainer, Professor Carlos Penalillo, has been applying it since 2005. At that time we worked in the minor categories of Sporting Cristal, since we did it as part of the session and in planning we put a dance session. Professor Penalillo has danced to black music and brought his cajon. Then, we lined up the young people between 12 and 13 years old, making them dance to the rhythm of black music. I was an assistant to Professor Fernando Mellán and at that time Cristal’s minor players, Deyair Reyes, were. Joazinho Arroé, Edu Saavedra and, how is life, today on my team there are Arroé and Reyes as players and Edu Saavedra as technical assistant. Now we wanted to apply the same as part of one of the training sessions of the day because we are training double shifts and some mornings we are including dancing as part of the training. Professor Carlos is no longer in charge because here the San Martín University has a dance teacher who is in charge of doing stretching exercises with the university workers, so we contacted each other and he very kindly came to train us, I say that, because I am also dancing just like the teachers doing that training that we call coordination with rhythm.

– What other benefits does coordination with rhythm in soccer provide?

Coordination with rhythm helps you more in the technical part, since pressing there requires more concentration and a physical display of not losing your mark. Dance helps us with that game model that we try to demonstrate in the combinative attack style that we expose. It requires good ball handling, not losing possession of the ball, giving good passes, having good ball controls and for that it helps you. dancing or coordination with rhythm as we call it.

How many players is the squad made up of and have you already closed the additions for your team?

Yes, it is already closed, because the pass book ended on Monday. We have 39 players, I apologize if I still can’t say who they are in total, although by watching the dance, you can already see who they are. Let’s hope that the squad is announced on the club’s social networks, because we publish two players per day every day. The rest will be released in the next few days.

– We received information that one of your signings is the Colombian goalkeeper Ignacio Silva, who was in Santa Fe playing in the Copa Sudamericana…

We have four archers. Last year we had Pedro Ynamine, but he was hired by Alianza Universidad de Huánuco and we have brought in the Colombian goalkeeper you mentioned. There are two guys like Sebastián Soteldo and Alexandro Cavaña who continue from last year and are youth players and we have brought a fourth goalkeeper from training called Franco, who has started training with us this season.

– We have seen Raziel García, was it difficult to convince him to play League 2?

The story between me and Raziel García is old, I don’t know if you know it, it starts in 2017 when I directed him at Unión Huaral and I always had a conversation with him. I am happy with how well he has done. Obviously, he is a top international player. He came to play in Peru, he was in Mannucci and his pass still belongs to Tolima in Colombia and I dared to call him. Disrespecting him, perhaps because we all know that he is a top player and even though he had first division offers from the Province, he cannot play in Tolima due to quota issues and could only train. So we persuaded him to return to his house, since he was trained in San Martín. Furthermore, the additional thing is that he knows my work methodology and the style of attack that we want to demonstrate, so, we persuaded him, he could already be seen dancing. despite the fact that his hiring is not published on the networks.

-Have you already closed preseason friendlies?

We entered the concentration last Wednesday, today we completed a week of concentration and we finished this March 2 with a couple of friendly matches. We have agreed on a friendly with Deportivo Municipal and we are looking at the possibility of another team, be it Alianza Lima reserve or another team. We are trying to coordinate that to close the preseason because we have 39 players, therefore, two teams and then there will be two games.

– But will they play friendlies in the Province?

Sorry I can’t give you names, but we have been invited to the presentation of two League 2 teams and it helps us adapt the trip and get to know the field we are going to play when the tournament starts.

– Do you already have the 39 players or are you going to reduce the squad?

We are not going to reduce. Last year we also ended up training with 41 players, you may say, it is an excess, it is anti-pedagogical, but we are talking about 22 players who are minors, right? Between the 2004 and 2007 categories, they are even kids from the youth teams, since this club, as you know, has a youth policy that I share and we bring the minors to live the experience of training with a professional team.

– How to handle the pressure of achieving promotion?

I understand that it is the objective of all teams when a championship begins, we were in a semifinal against Alianza Universidad and now we want to overcome that and advance.

-We saw that you were doing internships abroad, tell us about that experience?

I like that. If you have been able to follow me, I thank you. I always try to travel, one year if not the other. On this occasion we traveled with Alberto Masías to Colombia, we stayed for six days and we also went to see players, precisely the Colombian goalkeeper that we brought and a couple of players. I took the opportunity to meet with Professor Jorge Luis Pinto, I saw training sessions for Deportivo Cali and Atlético Nacional. The best thing in Colombia was meeting with Professor Luis Fernando Montoya, who won the Copa Libertadores with Once Caldas and then he was shot and became quadriplegic. We went to visit him at his farm and we talked about football and gave me life advice. But he continues to fight for his life and he advised me by receiving me at his house. What I learned from the entire trip was from that conversation with Professor Montoya.

– From this trip to Colombia, what methodology will you apply with San Martín?

One always tries to learn, copy and adapt what is done in other countries. In Colombia we have seen a different intensity and we have also experienced it when we went to play with the U-23 in Mexico in the month of December, there it does not take long to take out a side or they do not stay lying on the floor for a long time when they they make a foul. There is not much complaint, the referees let the game play and you do not see a referee who stops the game and goes to the bench to say something to a coach, football is more fluid and that demands greater intensity and therefore requires better preparation physical so that you can at least the 90 minutes that a game lasts there is not so much dead time. Studies say that here in Peru in 90 minutes of play there are only 45 minutes of effective time, imagine, so we are training to raise that level and at least have 70 minutes of effective time and to do so, we train with greater intensity. We want the player not to worry about waiting so long and because he receives a foul, he doesn’t stay lying on the floor and get up, we are trying to help the players learn so that in official games they propose greater intensity.

– Is there already a date for the start of League 2?

The official regulations have not yet come to light, however, they have already sent us information and it would begin the first week of April.

– Will League 2 be more difficult than last season?

Of course yes, not only because of the teams that have gone down, but with the teams that have gone up, since there are four teams like ADA from Jaén, from Cajamarca, which is high, and San Marcos de Huaraz, which is also high. There is also UCV de Moquegua, which has a good coach in Erick Torres, who is already used to promoting teams and has the support of the César Vallejo University. Imagine facing Binacional, which also has height, and San Pablo de Chiclayo, which would already be four teams from that area and it gets more difficult.
