“We all prefer to have more women on board”: the daily life of Leonie, a merchant navy officer

USA, Singapore, Vietnam, Turkey, Russia, China, Panama… Having barely received her higher education, Leonie Zembra was already touring the world. And this is just the beginning! In a few days she will be in the Caribbean Sea, near the Tobago Islands, on a 300-meter cable ship for two months. Under a fixed-term contract with Orange Marine, a subsidiary of the telecom operator specializing in the laying of submarine cables, Leoni will be on deck for the first time, responsible for maneuvers and navigation under the direction of the captain.

Previously, during her previous deployments, the young brunette and slender 1.60m tall woman had mostly donned overalls and noise-canceling headphones to monitor the hydraulic, electronic and air-conditioning systems of the engine room.
