Her five shuttle loss in the semi-finals of the French Open Badminton (IFB) on Saturday certainly still haunts her. Taiwan’s Tai Tzu Ying, who holds the record for longest tenure at world number one in the women’s singles (214 weeks), competed last week at the annual Paris round of the international circuit at the brand new Adidas Arena, at the Chapel Gate (18th century).
The tournament, which she won in 2017, is one of the eight biggest competitions in world badminton. Thus, all the driving aces gathered in this completely new environment, which will meet them again during the Paris Games 2024. The competition has thus become a test event at both a sporting, organizational and safety level. Foreign delegations, accustomed to the Pierre de Coubertin stadium (16th century), discovered this premises… and, more broadly, the area of Paris.
