Up from a goal down, Argentina defeated Costa Rica 3-1 in Los Angeles on Tuesday at the close of a mini-tour of friendlies to the United States, in which they did not have the injured Lionel Messi.
After a goal by Costa Rican Manfred Ugalde in the 34th minute, the Albiceleste began to turn the score around with a spectacular Messi-style free kick by Ángel Di María in the 52nd minute.
The world champion completed the comeback at the emblematic Memorial Coliseum with two more goals from Alexis McAllister (56′) and Lautaro Martínez (77′), who ended a year and a half scoring drought as an international.
Vivas’s meeting with Scaloni
At the end of the match, Claudio Vivas declared before the press, and from behind appeared Lionel Scaloni, who with a manly touch passed the word to the technical director of Costa Rica, who preceded to hug him with great affection.
After the hug, Lionel said the following: “This is great, he made my debut as a boy in Newells. You already saw him, they compete and he is going to give you joy, for my part I appreciate it a lot. His career supports it.”
