Paris 2024 Olympics: Metz disputes captain’s call to 3×3 TQO basketball tournament

Disagreement between the French Basketball Federation (FFBB) and Metropolitans 92. On Thursday evening, the Boulogne-Levallois club issued a press release in which it disputed in detail the FFBB’s decision to convene, despite their refusal to publish it, its defender and captain Lahau Konaté (32 year) for the 3×3 Basketball Olympic Qualifying Tournament (TQO) in May in Japan.

The club explains that during a meeting on March 13 with the national technical director and coach of the French 3×3 team, he stated that “we will not give a positive response to the release of our players,” the press release explains. “They told us that they could come in force on the call… which was just done…”

Mobilized with the Blues “despite the club’s refusal to release the player”, Lahau Konate will be with the French team on a training course in Seoul (April 16-23) and TQO (April 23-May 7). This tournament is the penultimate chance for men’s EDF 3×3 to qualify for the Olympic Games in Paris this summer. “Between April 15 and May 7, Lahau Konate will be absent for 4 of the last 8 games of the season,” Metz regrets.

“No compensation” proposed by the FFBB

“Depriving our captain for these matches will distort the integrity of the fight to retain and qualify for the BETCLIC Elite playoffs,” the club regrets. This state of affairs is unacceptable in our eyes. This indicates a lack of respect on the part of the FFBB for the club, the shareholder, sports staff, partners, fans of the club, as well as the LNB. »

“Double punishment,” they insist, “sporting and financial.” “Of course, in the event of a player being called up, the FFBB does not provide any financial compensation to the injured club, the DTN response was as follows: nothing is planned.. Thus, the FFBB not only deprives the club of its captain and main player, but also does not offer the club any compensation for the player’s significant salary. For reference, the cost of an all-inclusive club is 19,500 euros (salary, benefits, benefits in kind). »

Even with their captain, the Boulogne-Levallois club, 18th and last in the Betclic Elite (15% wins) and having spent almost the entire season in the red zone, has virtually no chance of winning and avoiding relegation.
