Not all events at the 2024 Paris Olympics will take place in the French capital. Some of them will go to the four corners of France, others will remain in Ile-de-France.

In Yvelines, Versailles will host two sports: horse riding and modern pentathlon. The city will also host an Olympic marathon and two road races (men’s and women’s).

The equestrian competition will begin the day after the opening ceremony on Saturday 27 July and conclude on Tuesday 6 August.

16,000 spectators will watch the equestrian competition from the stands of the ephemeral equestrian stadium, which is due to be completed soon. There are currently no places available for equestrian competitions at the Paris 2024 Classical Box Office. However, it is possible to purchase a hospitality package, the price of which ranges from 350 to 2125 euros.

New pentathlon format

A few days after the equestrian competitions, modern pentathlon competitions (fencing, swimming, riding, shooting and running) will be held at the Palace of Versailles. Only the classification fencing competitions on the first day will not be held in Versailles, but in the Paris-Nord arena (Villepinte).

72 athletes (36 men and 36 women) will take part in the modern pentathlon competition. There will be 18 finalists in each semi-final.

  • Thursday, August 8 (11:00): rating competitions in fencing (men and women).
  • Friday, August 9 (13:00): semi-finals (men)
  • Saturday, August 10 (9:30): semi-finals (women); final (men)
  • Sunday 11 August (11:00): final (women)

The Organization of the Olympic Games has decided to change the format of modern pentathlon for these Olympic Games in Paris. The semi-finals and finals will be shortened to 90 minutes:

  • 35 minutes of riding (jumping), then 5 minutes of break.
  • 20 minutes of fencing (épée) – bonus round, then 10 minutes.
  • 15 minutes swim (200m freestyle), then 15 minutes break.
  • 20 minutes combined run (laser run)

Pentathlon ticket sales are not available on the Paris 2024 website.
