US Open: Aryna Sabalenka eliminates Clara Burel, the last Frenchwoman in the women’s draw, in the third round

The power of the second racket of the world stunned Clara Burel. The last Frenchwoman in the women’s draw, the 62nd ranked tennis player in the world, was sent off by Aryna Sabalenka in the third round of the US Open (6-1, 6-1). The pitch proved too high for Burel, as did the first point of the match, won with a devastating forehand by the Belarusian, a semi-finalist in the last two editions of the US Open and winner of January’s Open d’Australia.

Among the French women tennis players, the Breton player remained alone from the second round. She copes with this move in the same way as last year at the US Open, where Sabalenka beat her in the 3rd round 6-0, 6-2.

“I’m very pleased with my performance,” the world No. 2 tennis player commented after the match, saying that she is comfortable in New York, where she likes the “atmosphere” and “the crowd.” On the Louis Armstrong court, the 22-year-old Frenchwoman fought, but lost too many precious points on serve, in particular making five double faults. In the second set, she found the resources to win the first game on her serve and made it difficult for Sabalenka to serve at 4-1, even offering herself a single break point that she failed to capitalize.

In the 1/8 finals, the Belarusian, who claims the title, will meet with Russian Daria Kasatkina (14th tennis player in the world) or Belgian Greet Minnen.
