Mexican boxing star Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez confirmed that his next rival will be his compatriot Jaime Munguía in a fight to be held on May 4 in Las Vegas (United States).

“Mexican to the war cry. See you on May 4th at the T-Mobile in Las Vegas #CaneloMunguia,” Álvarez announced on his X account (formerly Twitter).

‘Canelo’, who usually fights within the framework of the Mexican festivities of May 5, will face a rival from his country for the first time since his victory against Julio César Chávez Jr. in 2017.

Álvarez, 33 years old, will expose his four super middleweight belts (168 pounds – 76.2 kg) in the fight against Munguía who is undefeated in the 43 fights of his career.

The boxer from Guadalajara has so far had three successful defenses of his WBO (World Boxing Organization), WBA (World Association), WBC (World Council) and IBF (International Federation) belts.

The last of them was last September against the American Jermell Charlo, whom he defeated by unanimous decision also in Las Vegas (Nevada).

‘Canelo’ remains the undisputed super middleweight champion since his victory against the American Caleb Plant in November 2021, his last victory by knockout.

With his victory against Charlo, Álvarez reached 60 wins (39 by knockout) with 2 draws and 2 losses.

After reported talks of a possible duel with Jermall Charlo, Jermell’s twin brother, Álvarez finally opted for Munguía, who just achieved his greatest victory by beating John Ryder in January.
