César Luis Menotti and the day he confessed his desire to lead the Peruvian team

The former coach of the Argentine national team, César Luis Menotti, died last Sunday and world football is in mourning. The prominent strategist was an admirer of Peruvian football and this was recorded in an interview with journalist Fernando Jiménez in the late 90s.

Menotti confessed that if he was requested by the Peruvian Football Federation he would come without problems.

“If we talk well about how I would approach my work, and they accept what I propose, I will go to Peru,” he said in the aforementioned talk that is part of the book ‘En la Boca del Túnel.

“It would be different if they came looking for me from a country that does not have a football career. So there I would think twice.

Furthermore, in that part of the interview Menotti pointed out that the best Peruvian soccer player he saw was Hugo Sotil, who he said was “as much or more than Johan Cruyff.”

“That was truly extraordinary. When I led Barcelona, ​​the Spanish leaders spoke wonderfully about Sotil night and day.
