Universitario fell 0-2 against LDU this Tuesday, May 28, 2024 for the sixth day of Group D of the Copa Libertadores at the Rodrigo Paz Delgado Stadium – Casa Blanca. The ‘Cremas’ were holding on to the result, however, minutes before the end of the first half, an inattention inside the area on a stopped ball caused Alex Arce to take advantage and score the 1-0 for the locals.

Already in the second half, Universitario was a little more encouraged to go forward, however, it left space and the Quito League knew how to take advantage of that, with Lisandro Alzugaray finding the second and final goal for the match. Christofer Gonzáles was sent off before finishing the match for a double yellow.

After the match, the cream club issued a statement denouncing racist and xenophobic insults to players and Fabián Bustos’ coaching staff by the Ecuadorian fans.
