The brothers who inspired us to hold the World Balloons World Cup were eliminated in the first round

Mandatory social isolation, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, caused many people to find new hobbies. Diego and Antonio Arredondo decided to play at home so that the balloon does not fall and the video went viral in a short time. Many repeated it the following days, but Ibai Llanos and Gerard Piqué went much further: they decided to create the Balloon World Cup.

The event was held last Thursday at PortAventura World and, although the Peruvian Francesco De la Cruz was crowned champion, the presence of the Arredondo brothers attracted a lot of attention. Of course, it was quite a surprise that Diego, representative of the United States, lost in the first round at the hands of Cuban Eric Guzmán.

“We spoke little yesterday about the Arredondo brothers, who were eliminated in the 1st round against Cuba, saying goodbye to the tournament earlier than planned. Without his viral video, none of this would have been possible. Diego & Antonio, thank you ”, was the message that the World Globes dedicated to the Americans.

“We played the game when we were kids, and then during the start of the COVID quarantine we wanted to play again. We started arguing among ourselves about whether he hit the ground or not, so we started recording slow motion videos to see if he did and finally we got to the point of posting this video of ours on Tik-Tok “Antonio commented in dialogue with Reuters.

The young man then added: “When I woke up the next morning, it was completely viral, like a million likes, and then we decided to keep playing and playing more and more until one of our rounds caught the attention of Ibai and Piqué.”

Francesco De La Cruz became the first World Balloon champion, organized by famous streamer Ibai Llanos and footballer Gerard Piqué. The 18-year-old Peruvian made a splendid presentation and beat German Jan Spieb (6-2) in the final.
