Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix: “What did he do?” “, Gasly attacks Ocon after stupid fight between Alpine

This is a collision that should not go without consequences. This Sunday, during the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Monaco, two Alpine cars driven by Frenchmen Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon collided from the first lap.

“What was he doing? What was he doing? Why did he try to attack me? My God,” Pierre Gasly shouted into the radio as his teammate tried to overtake him on the right, even though he had started behind him on the grid (10 -1st and 11th positions). And Gasly is indignant: “Now the whole car is damaged!” »

From the camera on Lance Stroll’s car just behind them, we can clearly see Esteban Ocon attempting to pass Gasly on the right, and then the collision that literally throws Ocon’s car upright by Gasly’s right front tire.

“We’ll decide right away”

“Yes, it’s sad, such an incident,” Bruno Famin, director of their Alpine team, regretted on Canal+. This is exactly what we did not want to see, and Esteban’s attack occurred completely out of circumstances, and we will draw the consequences. (…) We decide right away. (…) If we were fighting for the podium at the end of the race, why not, and even then, on the first lap, it was not the place to attack without leaving room for your teammate. »

While Pierre Gasly resumed the start after a long break due to Sergio Perez’s accident, Esteban Ocon remained in the pits. “It’s an unfortunate incident, it has a little impact and unfortunately it’s me who gives up,” he briefly commented to Canal+. It was crazy, the race was still going to take a long time, but a start can already be made. The Frenchman also receives a five-place grid penalty for the Canadian Grand Prix in two weeks.

The incident between the two Alpine drivers occurred just seconds before the red flag was waved after a huge three-car crash on the opening lap. The accident involved the Mexican Sergio Perez, whose front wheels were torn off on the Red Bull, as well as the Haas of Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg. Based on early images, the three pilots appear to have escaped unhurt from the brutal collision.
