2024 Olympic Games in Paris: France won the Nations Cup in beach volleyball and two pairs will compete at the Games

It was controversial, but the Blues did it! This Sunday in Latvia, the French men’s beach volleyball team won the Nations Cup, defeating Austria in the final. Thanks to this success, the company has opened an additional Olympic quota and will therefore send two couples to the 2024 Games in Paris.

At the group stage, the French team beat Germany, then Lithuania. Before eliminating Belgium in the quarter-finals and Portugal in the semi-finals. Their final opponent, Austria, was the most formidable of all. In the first match of the final, Remy Bassereau and Julien Linel lost to the pair Timo Hammarberg – Moritz Priestaus (28-30, 21-17, 15-11).

But Arnaud Gauthier-Ra and Theo Rotard, teaming up for the first time in this competition, managed to level the score. They beat the Austrians Christoph Dressler and Philipp Waller (19-21, 21-19, 12-15). The two French athletes then won the tiebreaker against Timo Hammarberg and Moritz Pristaus, giving the French team victory (15-10).

Successful promotion of Theo Rotary

Remy Bassereau and Julien Linel should be selected for the Olympic Games. On the other hand, the identity of the other couple is more uncertain. Theo Rotard replaced the injured Youssef Crowe this week, along with Arnaud Gauthier-Rath. And he did it successfully. The national technical direction is due to announce its selection on June 21. The French women’s team will also send two couples to the Olympics, as the results of Alexia Richard and Lezana Placette from 2023 were enough to open the second quota.
