Argentine crown: Juan Manuel Cerúndolo won the Lima Challenger

The Sunday cold was covered with good tennis at the Jockey Club of Peru, where the Argentine Juan Manuel Cerúndolo was crowned champion of the Lima Challenger Copa DirecTV, after beating the Brazilian Pedro Boscardin 6-4 and 6-3 in the final.

It is the first Challenge title of the season for the youngest of the Cerúndolo -Francisco this Monday plays against Alcaraz in Quenns-, who arrived as the best seed and met expectations in the tournament organized by Igma Sports.

Juanma thus receives revenge for the final he lost in the Peruvian capital at Lima 2, in October 2021 against Nicolás Jarry. And he already has his eighth Challenger title, in addition to an ATP 250 in his career.

“The atmosphere was very nice, the people were always supportive,” said the Argentine tennis player, who adds 50 points to the ranking and will rise from 181 to 152 ATP.

In the doubles table, the Lebanese duo Hady Habib and the American Trey Hilderbrand won the title after beating the Brazilian duo formed by Pedro Sakamoto and Pedro Boscardin in the final, who reached the two finals.

Unfortunately, the tournament was not the best for the Peruvians. In singles, Gonzalo Bueno, Nicolás Álvarez and Luis José Nakamine fell in the first round, while in doubles, only Nakamine was able to advance a series with his duo, the Ecuadorian Emilio Gómez.

This is how the first tennis Challenger in Lima closes – Lima 2 is held in November – with a new champion, since Álvaro Guillén could not repeat his success and Camilo Ugo was not part of the event.
