Ysrael ‘Cachete’ Zuñiga was arrested with the governor of Arequipa for alleged corruption

The regional governor of Arequipa, Elmer Cáceres Llica, along with other civil servants and public servants, were arrested this morning in a mega-operation against the alleged criminal organization ‘Los Niños del Condor’. Among those arrested is the former soccer player Ysrael ‘Cachete’ Zuñiga.

The Directorate Against Corruption (Dircocor) of the National Police and representatives of the Specialized Corporate Provincial Prosecutor’s Office In Crimes of Corruption of Arequipa Officials, they have carried out 10 preliminary arrests so far, TV Peru said.

The other detainees are: Napoleón Ocsa Flores (Executive Manager of the Autonomous Authority of Majes), Gregorio Urbano Palma Figueroa (General Manager of the Regional Government of Arequipa), Jeymi Natividad Flores Quicaña (Regional Councilor of Arequipa), Miguel Sebastián Guzmán Hinojosa (Councilor Arequipa Regional) and Herlyn Ysrael Zuñiga Yañez (Regional Councilor of Arequipa).

‘Cachete’ Zúñiga is a former footballer who wore the colors of emblematic national football clubs, such as Melgar FC from Arequipa and Universitario de Deportes de Lima. He also played in the English Premier League with Coventry City and in the Argentine League with Estudiantes de La Plata.

After retiring from professional soccer, Zúñiga Yáñez joined the public administration as a regional councilor in Arequipa.

Among those arrested in this Saturday’s mega-operation are Richard Edgard Calvo Ramos (Manager of Economic Development, Special Majes Siguas Project), Mario Jacobo Jacobo (President of the Pampas Bayas Sol Radiante de Majes Agroindustrial Association, Advisor to the Regional Governor of Arequipa), Ronald Bernal Huarca (Regional Councilor) and Alexander Martínez Rojas.

The diligence is also carried out 35 raids with desecration, among them the offices of the Regional Government of Arequipa.

According to the aforementioned media, the tax investigation indicates that Cáceres Llica would have recruited regional councilors, offering them the delivery and administration of works, economic and labor benefits, as well as plots and / or State land, so that they do not control it and support it unconditionally in all functional contexts.

Public officials and servants are investigated for crimes against the public administration in the form of improper passive bribery, own passive bribery and collusion.
