The dispute for the Ballon d’Or also begins to be played through messages and posts on social networks. Spanish tennis player Rafael Nada, a Real Madrid fan, expressed his desire for forward Karim Benzema to win the award.

Through his Twitter account, Rafael Nadal indicated: “My admiration as a player, commitment to sport and professionalism at his age. Good luck and my support for the 2021 Ballon d’Or″. The message had an immediate response in Benzema: “Thanks champion! #Hala Madrid and nothing more”.

The messages went viral in a matter of minutes, but many fans did not share Nadal’s opinion and responded with messages of support for the Argentine star Lionel Messi, for many the great favorite to keep the award once again.

The 2021 Ballon d’Or will be awarded on November 29, after last year the prestigious award given to the best footballer of the year was suspended due to the pandemic and the suspension of some competitions.

On October 8, the 30 players who will compete for the award, chosen by the vote of 180 journalists from around the world, were announced. The Ballon d’Or award ceremony will take place at a gala at the Châtelet Theater in Paris, the same place where Lionel Messi received it for the sixth time in 2019.

The magazine France Football will also award that same day the Women’s Ballon d’Or, the Kopa trophy, to the best player under 21 years old, and the Yashin trophy, to the best goalkeeper.
