Guillermo Barros Schelotto made his first call to command of the Paraguayan national team

After the defeat that Paraguay suffered at the hands of Bolivia in La Paz on the date of the most recent Qualifiers, Eduardo Berizzo was dismissed from the Guaraní team. In his place, his compatriot Guillermo Barros Schelotto was hired, who will make his debut at the helm of a World Cup process.

With a view to the double date where Paraguay will face Chile at home and then Colombia visit, Guillermo made the list of players called up official. The brothers Óscar and Ángel Romero, both without a team after leaving San Lorenzo de Almagro, stand out on the first list.

On the list of summoned Barros Schelotto, who took office on October 21, also includes defender Gustavo Gómez and midfielder Miguel Almirón, whom he directed during his time in Lanús, where Guillermo also worked alongside his brother Gustavo.

La Albirroja, who is eighth in the qualifying rounds, with 12 points, will face Chile on November 11 in Asunción and will visit Colombia on November 16 in Barranquilla. Paraguay is four points behind the team that is fifth and is in the playoff zone, Uruguay.

Guillermo’s election is highly criticized in Paraguay. The press and former referents of the team indicated that the best option was to opt for a national coach and return to the Paraguayan style of play, after the experiment with Berizzo did not work.
