“Here rests D10S”: the emotional tribute to Diego Armando Maradona who defied the rain

Everyone remembers him and more a year after his death. “Here rests D10S”, announces a huge graffiti in front of the Bella Vista private cemetery, on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, where the remains of Diego Maradona are found. For this reason, his biggest followers decided to honor him, despite the rain.

“Diego was the god of soccer and all of us who like soccer know what we lost. Diego was ours, from the town. He gave us joys and sorrows when it was bad and we suffered. Diego was like that “Jorge, a fan of Independiente, tells AFP who showed a poster with a huge photo of Maradona lifting the world cup in Mexico-1986 and a message: “D10S, eternal thanks.”

The private cemetery does not allow access to the public. Only relatives. In the morning, Verónica Ojeda, the mother of Diego Fernando, the youngest of Maradona’s children, was at the grave. Later, Lalo and Elsa, two of his brothers, passed by. They were sitting on the grass, near the tombstone, where many flowers were seen. They left without speaking to the press.

In a mural signed by the plastic artist Damián Ferro and entitled “Sowed joy in the people”, the milestones of the life of the 10th are portrayed.

The history of the “D10S”

The beginning of everything was in Villa Fiorito, about 55 km from the cemetery, or the cradle of ’10’ and the emotion is also on the surface. In that poor neighborhood south of Buenos Aires, he lived his childhood and youth until he was able to fulfill his dream of buying a house for his parents, Doña Tota and Don Chitoro, in a wealthy neighborhood.

Maradona’s face is also painted on the front of his childhood home, now occupied by a neighbor who takes care of the curious and declared weeks ago as “National Historic Site.”

“Thank you for playing soccer”, reads a plaque. On the fence that protects the house there are Argentine flags. “You gave us heaven”, it reads on a paper forgotten on earth.
