The most ambitious project of the FIFA is to ensure that the World Cup is played every two years, however, the players and coaches in activity flatly refuse. The last two to take their stance are the forwards Kylian Mbappé Y Robert Lewandowski.

The reason for both players is clear: rest. In an interview at the award ceremony of the ‘Globe Soccer Awards’, the PSG striker said: “We like to play, but it’s too much. If people want to see quality, we have to take a break ”.

“Playing the World Cup every two years would make this competition normal and that shouldn’t be the case. The World Cup, the Nations League … We love to play, but it’s too much ”, added Mbappé, world champion in Russia 2018.

Robert Lewandowski also argued the same: “We have to look to the future, if we want to play a World Cup every two years, the level will go down. It is impossible for the body and mind to perform at the same level”.

UEFA and Conmebol refuse

The two most important confederations in the world have refused. Through their representatives and the team presidents, they have already indicated that the project will affect footballers and also the European calendar.

However, in Africa and Oceania they are in favor: “My job is to ensure that African football grows and succeeds. African football must be able to benefit financially, ”said Patrice Motsepe, president of the African Football Confederation.
