Attention Sporting Cristal: Quito will host the Copa Libertadores Sub 20 in February 2022

Ecuador will host for the first time a championship of the Copa Libertadores Sub 20 And it will do so in different stadiums of its capital, Quito, between February 5 and 10, 2022, announced this Tuesday the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol).

The national teams Liga de Quito, Independiente del Valle, and Orense, will participate in the tournament whose groups have already been drawn. There are three groups and each Ecuadorian team will play in a different one.

The championship will be held at the Banco de Guayaquil stadiums, in Sangolquí, a suburb of the capital, and at the Olímpico Atahualpa, in Quito.

The first match of group A will be on February 5 between the Ecuadorian champion, Independiente del Valle and Caracas from Venezuela. In B, which will be played on day 6 with the debut of Liga de Quito against Internacional from Brazil, and C will start on February 7 facing Newell’s from Argentina with Guaraní, from Paraguay.

This was announced by the South American body on its Twitter account where the confirmed dates for the tournament appear.

The Ecuadorian Independiente will take to the field on February 5, 8 and 11 to face Caracas, Sporting Cristal and Blooming. The Albo team will play against Internacional, Peñarol and Millonarios on February 6, 9 and 12. While the Machaleños will do so on the 7th, 10th and 13th against Concepción, Guaraní and Newell’s.

Ecuador is the country with the highest number of clubs competing in the Cup, including Independiente del Valle, the champion in the 2020 edition of the tournament, as it was not held in 2021 due to the covid-19 pandemic.

In 2022 the sixth edition of the Copa Libertadores Sub’20 will be played and it is the first time that Ecuador will act as host in this category. On the contrary, it will be the scene again, next October, of the Libertadores Femenina as it did in 2019.
