Erik Lamela has been awarded the Puskas Award for the best goal of 2021 at the FIFA The Best gala that is being held at its headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland. The Argentine scored a rabona goal when he was a Tottenham player against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium for the Premier League.

The current Sevilla player scored a goal with a nice ‘rabona’ as a Tottenham player on March 14 last year. The goal came after a control by Lucas Moura behind the goal, the Brazilian placed the ball at the feet of Lamela who scored with quality and with a pipe including Thomas Partey.

The Argentine, who signed for Sevilla in July, succeeds his former teammate at the London club, Heung-min Son, in the award. The South Korean managed to win the Puskas in 2021 after a spectacular individual play in a match against Burnley for the Premier League.

Notably, Lamela managed to overcome goals from Patrik Schick and Mehdi Taremi. The Argentine admitted that at the time of the technical gesture he did not “Nothing went through my head.” “I did not think anything until after executing it I saw that it entered”, admitted the Argentine, who is currently out due to injury.

A curious detail is that it was not Erik’s first rabona. In 2014 he made one in the Europa League for Spurs against Asteras Tripolis, from Greece, at White Hart Lane.
