Alarms lit in Colombia: Luis Fernando Muriel would be low due to COVID-19

Louis Ferdinand Muriel would be low Colombia selection for the penultimate double date of playoffs. The attacker was not considered in the last Atalanta game, which announced several COVID-19 infections hours before.

The Bergamo team delayed their trip to Rome to face Lazio this Saturday after detecting more than one positive in their first team. Then the ‘coffee grower’ striker was not summoned for the commitment by date 23 of the Italian Serie A.

According to Colombian media, Muriel would be one of those infected by Atalanta. This less than a week for Peru vs. Colombia in Barranquilla, key for both teams.

Due to injury or due to the coronavirus outbreak, Atalanta could not line up Josip Ilicic, Teun Koopmeiners, Mario Pasalic, Ruslan Malinovskyi, Muriel, Robin Gosens, Hans Hateboer and Duván Zapata today, also called up for Colombia’s duels against Peru and Argentina. The entity did not disclose who are the soccer players in its organization affected by COVID-19.

Colombia will receive Peru in Barranquilla on January 28 and on February 1 it will visit Argentina in the province of Córdoba.

In the absence of Juan Fernando Quintero due to injury, Falcao and James are emerging as the starting duo in attack.

The reunion of the two most outstanding Colombian soccer players of the last decade could end a drought of five games without a win by Colombia in the pre-world championships.

Those of Rueda, who are fourth (17 points), partially classified to Qatar-2022, did not score goals in those games either, setting off the alarms due to the lack of efficiency in attack.

If they lose to Peru (also fifth with 17 units), they would be displaced from the boxes that give direct quotas to the World Cup.
