Rare still working Commodore 65 prototype goes up for auction on eBay

A working prototype of the Commodore 65 has been put up for auction as a computing rarity, as it is a piece of equipment that improves on the popular Commodore 64 but few units were made, and all have reached the present day in working order.

The computer up for auction is a Commodore 65 prototype developed between 1989 and 1991, an alpha unit that has an unusual case, because instead of having rough plastic, the finish is smooth and shiny.

According to the description offered by the seller on ebay, the computer is in good condition, as the plastic has not turned yellow, despite the passage of time. It only has a few light scratches, and lacks the ‘power’ and ‘drive’ texts, although the latter is a feature that adds to its rarity.

Commodore 65 was developed with improvements over its predecessor, the popular Commodore 64 computer, and few units were built, of which not all are currently functional, as this unit is, as the auction page ensures .

The auction has exceeded 25,600 euros (about 27,800 dollars), at the time of writing this news. The seller says that if they exceed 50,000 euros, he will include a monitor next to the computer.
