data hijacking it is currently the fastest growing type of cybercrime globally. The overall damage costs for ransomware reached US$20 billion in 2021, which is 57 times more than in 2015, according to data from a Cybersecurity Ventures report.

Many industries implemented digital channels, but this digital acceleration was not accompanied by adequate protection and a gap between channels and customer data was exposedthus leaving a vulnerability around data protection”, indicated Jaime Mourão, general manager of Stefanini Peru.

According to a Fortinet report, the Peru is among the top countries most attacked by cybercriminalsreaching only in 2021 over 11.5 billion attempted cyberattacks. Our country is only behind Brazil (88.5 billion), while it is positioned ahead of Colombia (11.2 billion).

Mourão explained that, on the other hand, many companies moved from Data Center On Premise solutions to the cloud, but they are not managing vulnerabilities in an efficient and correct manner, with which, a gap in cybersecurity is also being generated. Therefore, cyber criminals take advantage of this situation and carry out cyber attacks.

More than 70% of computer attacks come from within the same organizations and have multiplied in recent years, putting companies at serious risk of operational continuity”, he added.

Mourão also added that, the dark web and deep web are the sites where cybercriminals try to sell stolen information to organizations, which can affect the domain image and brand reputation. “60% of sites on the Dark Web could potentially be harmful to businesses. For this reason, it is essential that the market has the strategies and tools to protect and guarantee the safety of all users.”, he indicated.
