Xiaomi will close its cloud of photos and videos Gallery Sync

Xiaomi has announced that it will discontinue its Gallery Sync service, which will no longer be compatible with Xiaomi Cloud, and will offer users the photo manager of Google Photos for content migration to the cloud.

Gallery Sync is a function developed by the Chinese company that is responsible for storing and synchronizing the device’s multimedia content, such as images or videos, in its cloud service.

The Chinese manufacturer has decided to stop supporting this function and make way for the Google Photos file sharing application, with which it has reached an agreement to facilitate content migration and backup.

This document also includes the timeline for the end of support for Gallery Sync, although the dates on which it will take place are not specified in the absence of an official announcement of this discontinuation. Initially in 2022, gallery sync features will be disabled.

Thereafter, the Xiaomi Cloud Gallery Sync service cannot be purchased and the last membership fee will be refunded if it was paid before this announcement. Also at that time the Google Photos data migration and download options will be available directly in the Xiaomi Gallery.

On the other hand, already in 2023, the manufacturer will disable data download options and terminate Google Photos migration features. Existing Gallery data saved in the cloud will also be deleted.

In addition, Xiaomi has recalled that users who need additional storage space in the cloud to move their content from Xiaomi Cloud to Photos will be able to try the Google One service. To transfer data to Google Photos it can be done through the application itself. Gallery or from Xiaomi Cloud.
