Xbox warns that it will soon raise the price of its products (console, video games and Game Pass)

The person in charge of Xbox and executive director of microsoft Gaming chief Phil Spencer has suggested that Microsoft will need to raise the prices of its Xbox products, both console and gaming, and its subscription soon, despite having maintained them in recent years.

The Xbox Series X console is currently priced at $547, while the Xbox Series S can be purchased for $399.99 through the company’s official Microsoft Store.

Its subscription service, Xbox Game Pass, has different rates: $12.98 per month for Ultimate (also includes the Gold service), $10 for PC and $10 for console.

The person in charge of Xbox has commented on how he foresees the future of both the console he develops and the games and his subscription service Xbox Game Pass and has suggested that it will have to raise the prices of Xbox services, without detailing which ones would be susceptible to this increase.

It has done so within the framework of WSJ Tech Live, a conference focused on the technology industry, in a presentation entitled ‘Beyond Xbox: The Future Of Video Games At Microsoft’, in which the growth of its cloud services, subscriptions and its plans to acquire Activision Blizzard.

“We have maintained the price of our console, that of the games… and our subscription. I don’t think we can do that forever. I think at some point we will have to raise some prices on certain things.”Spencer said, as reported by The Verge’s senior editor Tom Warren.

These statements contrast with those issued at the end of last August, when the company indicated that it would maintain the price of the Xbox console before the rise of the PlayStation 5 (PS5), manufactured by Sony.

The latter had announced days before the increase in the final price both in the Digital Edition consoles and in the models with Blu-ray support, in Europe, the United Kingdom, China, Mexico, Canada, Australia and, ultimately, Japan, where It became effective soon after.

It should be remembered that Microsoft and the Japanese company have been at odds since the beginning of this year, when the former announced that it had reached an agreement to buy the publisher and developer of popular video games such as Call Of Duty, Activision Blizzard.
