Why is 2022 being the worst year in cell phone sales?

2022 has been a somewhat different year. The sudden changes that had to be made due to the pandemic and the economic difficulties that have occurred throughout the world have also touched, or shocked, the industry of the technology.

An example is the latest study by the research firm International Data Corporation, which pointed out that this year has been the worst, of the last five, in terms of smartphone sales worldwide.

The report also indicated that there has been an unexpected collapse in sales, which fell in the last 11 months and currently the decrease is close to 10%.

In addition, it was reported that 301.9 million smartphones were distributed from July to September. If it is compared with the behavior presented in the sales of the last nine years, this is the worst figure for this quarter and it is highlighted that a lower figure had not been seen since 2013.

Meanwhile, the report shows that emerging countries were the most affected and this can be justified by the rise in the dollar and by the inflation that is occurring, which leaves technological purchases in the background for users.

Should the economy be able to level off again, smartphone purchases are expected to show an improvement by 2023.
