Arma 3, a shooter and war conflict game, has become the tool to create false news on networks. Its realistic graphics have worked against it, since it is being used for purposes far from gaming.

The video game would not be exactly popular, and that would have been another point against when it came to recognizing it in the publications. It has an average of 14,000 players and its best moment would have been 7 years ago. These characteristics together would have made it the perfect candidate to pass off as real material.

How to recognize a fake video?

It is almost impossible to fight against fake news on the internet. Nevertheless, The best action that can be taken to stop the spread of these posts is to identify the origin of the videos or photos being shared.. The Arma 3 studio, Bohemia Interactive, ruled on the matter, stating the following:

“We have tried to fight against this type of content by flagging these videos to platform providers (FB, YT, TW, IG, etc.), but it is very ineffective. For every video that is removed, ten more are uploaded every day. We have found that the best way to deal with this is to actively cooperate with mainstream media and fact checkers. (such as AFP, Reuters and others), which have a better reach and the ability to fight the spread of fake news effectively.”
