Musk is the absolute owner of Twitter since October 27 and has repeatedly stirred controversy as CEO, such as firing half the staff or reinstating far-right figures to the platform and, most recently, suspending journalists’ accounts and trying to charge for services that were previously free.

“I will resign as CEO as soon as I find someone foolish enough to accept the position”Musk wrote on Twitter, saying that after that he will only take care of the programming and server teams at Twitter.

Musk has used Twitter polls to make other decisions about the platform, including reinstating the account of former US President Donald Trump and other suspended users.

Earlier this week, he used the laughing emoji to ridicule a report that he was on the hunt for someone to take over Twitter, tweeting that “No one wants the work that can really keep Twitter alive. There is no successor.”

A chain of controversies

The businessman published the survey on his resignation shortly after trying to wriggle out of yet another controversy.

On Sunday, Twitter users were told they could no longer promote content from other social networking sites.

However Musk reversed the decision hours later, writing that the policy would be limited to suspended accounts only if “the main purpose of these accounts is to promote competitors”.

The attempted ban drew disapproval and even puzzled Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, who has backed the Musk takeover.

Shortly after the announcement of the platform acquisition, Musk announced that the network would charge 8 dollars a month to verify accounts, but had to suspend the ‘Twitter Blue’ plan after an embarrassing wave of fake accounts. The show was later relaunched.

On November 4, Musk said the company was losing $4 million a day and Twitter laid off half of its 7,500 workers.

Musk too reinstated Trump’s account, despite the fact that the former US president said he had no interest in returning to the platform, and announced that Twitter would not continue working to combat misinformation about covid-19.
