Meta Quest 1 VR headsets will end in 2024

Goal plans to stop rolling out software updates to its helmets virtual reality (RSV) goal quest 1 from 2024 and expects to remove access to some of its functionality next March.

Several users have reported through forums such as Reddit and social networks such as Twitter that they have received an email from the company detailing their plans for next year with respect to this viewer.

In this letter, the company remembers that it launched this device four years ago —under the Oculus brand— and that, with an eye on the future of virtual reality, will continue to “supporting the viewer with some changes”.

First, Meta points out that the owners of these helmets will be able to continue using thembut that they will not receive new features or software updates, that is, critical bug fixes and security patches, starting in 2024.

The manufacturer indicates in the email that with this change of plans Quest 1 users will also not be able to create or join a game and that it will stop offering access to Meta Horizon Home features as of March 5, 2023. These users will also not be able to invite other users and players to their Home or visit others’ Home.
