Just like SpaceX’s Starlink did, Amazon also has its satellite internet

Despite the controversial layoff regime in technological development companies, Amazon has gone a step further by joining the satellite Internet service, just as SpaceX’s Starlink had already done.

And it is that it is an opportunity that could ensure internet access to any part of the world. And it is also a sample of the rivalry between both companies.

In this case, the Amazon project is called Project Kuiper (Kuiper Project), reported the Somos Eléctricos page. The project had already been announced in 2018, but more details have only been known this year.

What is known is that the service will be offered through the Amazon website. There will be three types of receiving antennas, at a price of US$100 (the cheapest), says the report. In addition, it will have a speed of 100Mbps. Amazon will also have a service for commercial and government use, with a larger receiver and speeds of up to 1 Gbps.

But all this is estimated. Low Earth orbit satellites will be launched from 2024, the date by which they could already have Internet service. On the other hand, it will be necessary to have at least 3,236 satellites in orbit.
