Mozilla says TikTok must acknowledge on Google Play that it shares user data with third-party companies

Mozilla has urged ByteDance, the company responsible for TikTokto indicate in the Google Play Store that the popular video application does share user data with third-party companies, to be more transparent with their privacy practices.

The TikTok page in the Play Store indicates in the ‘Data security’ section that it does not share data with third parties, a statement that makes it Mozilla classifies this ‘app’ as “infringing” in terms of the transparency of its privacy practices.

Actually TikTok does share data with third parties, as disclosed in its privacy policy. Specifically, he points out that they share the data “with third party service providers who help us to offer you the Platform, such as cloud storage service providers”but also “with business partners, with other companies in the same group as TikTokcontent moderation services, measurement service providers, advertisers and analytics service providers”.

“Profiting from user data as a business model is bad enough, but trying to hide it is simply unacceptable”they point out from Mozilla in their official blog.

For this reason, and taking advantage of the fact that the application is under the scrutiny of the European and American authorities for its data use practices, has launched a petition to “stop misleading the public.”
