ERA, the hybrid aircraft that could have its first test flight in 2026

The electromobility It has not only motivated the development of the cars. Soon planes will also be able to count on this technology, and an example of this is ERA, a hybrid airplane that within six it may be transporting its first passengers.

And it is that one of the pending tasks of commercial aviation is to reduce pollution. For this, there are already companies working on electric and hybrid aircraft, such as the one worked by the French company Aura Aero.

According to the company, it has entered a stage of “final design” of the aircraft specially developed to cover regional flights with a maximum of 19 passengers, reported the page El Español.

The plane has undergone some modifications, and the most important change is the incorporation of two extra engines, one for each wing, with which it can exceed 500 km/h. Before they only had six propeller engines.

As it is a hybrid vehicle, it also shares the use of fuel with electricity. It uses a pair of combustion generators located at the rear of the aircraft, while the battery packs are more centrally located.

If there are no delays, the plane may have its first flight in 2026, with the capacity to cross countries like Spain in just two hours. In addition, the ERA could transport passengers as of 2029. It is also planned that in the next two decades it will have 2,000 aircraft.
