Blockbuster to Netflix users: “We didn’t care who you shared the video with. As long as you returned it on time.”

Blockbuster has criticized Netflix after launching restrictions to prevent password sharing outside the home. The company used its social networks to emphasize that they did not prevent rented movies from being shared with other people, unlike the service streaming.

A friendly reminder of when they used to rent videos from us. We didn’t care who you shared it with… As long as you returned it on timeposted the Blockbuster Twitter account, which mentioned Netflix at the end.

The account is the official Blockbuster one and years ago it had the blue verification check. With Twitter’s changes, the profile missed the mark and is not very active since then. However, it still belongs to Dish Network, a brand that owns the old movie rental store.

The company went out of business in 2014, when streaming took off. Although they already had problems due to piracy and thousands of websites offering the same service, but for free (like Cuevana, for example), Blockbuster could not hold its own in the market.

Blockbuster hasn’t been the only company to criticize Netflix for its current decisions. Prime Video also used its social networks to mock the streaming giant. On Twitter, the account for the United Kingdom, assured that “anyone who has the password” could use an account of his service.

Netflix has recently implemented its new measures in the United States to prevent the sharing of passwords outside the home. That is, now it charges an extra amount for people who use its service outside the home. Although the streaming giant had already been using these rules in other countries, as in the case of Peru, it delayed the launch due to its poor reception, as happened in Spain.
